In recognition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, we would like to share the educational video above. With tech support scams on the rise, this video provides you with tips on protecting yourselves against falling victim to these types of cyber-attacks.
“Hello, we are calling from Windows, and it appears your computer is infected. Our technician can fix it for you now.”
We’ve recently seen a spike in customers contacting their local Heartland Bank branch asking for assistance or questioning suspicious phone calls or emails they have received. These calls or emails are in reference to their computer's operating system.
Calls like this, are most likely coming from scammers trying to gain remote control of your computer. They will try to trick the victim with fake error reports and then collect a fee by asking for bank account information or by other payment methods.
If you receive a similar call out of the blue, the best advice is to simply hang up. Please contact your local Heartland Bank branch if you may have been scammed or would like more information about this topic.

Due to recently increased security requirements, we at Heartland Bank are no longer able to support version 10 or older of Internet Explorer. We are sorry for this inconvenience, and encourage you to upgrade to more secure options such as Internet Explorer 11, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
