Heartland Bank Announces Leadership Advancements to Support Future Growth and Continued Excellence
GENEVA, NEBRASKA — Heartland Bank is proud to announce several leadership advancements that will go into effect on August 1, 2025, as part of the Bank’s ongoing strategy to build for the future while remaining deeply rooted in its values and community-focused mission.
John Wilkins, currently serving as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President, will transition to the role of Chairman. In this position, he will continue to lead the Bank and Holding Company Boards and guide the long-term strategic direction of the organization. John’s vision and leadership have been central to Heartland Bank’s success and growth over the last 15 years. His continued involvement will ensure continuity and strength as the Bank moves forward.
Aaron Schardt, currently the Bank’s Chief Financial Officer, will be promoted to Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In this new role, Aaron will oversee Heartland Bank’s day-to-day operations while continuing to drive strategic initiatives that deliver long-term value and innovation. Aaron has been a valued part of Heartland Bank for 21 years, serving as a key member of the leadership team and helping guide the organization through growth and change.
Dennis Ferguson, currently Regional President, will be promoted to President. In this position, Dennis will lead Heartland Bank’s full branch network and lending activities, deepening customer relationships and supporting community engagement across all markets. With 30 years of banking experience, his leadership over the last 7 years at Heartland Bank has strengthened regional performance and supported the Bank’s reputation for delivering personal, community-based service.
