The latest scam targeting Nebraskans involves fake calls from law enforcement.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the call looks like it's coming from them, and will tell the victim that they are subject to a warrant or need to pay a fine.

NSP says they do not contact the public in those ways, so don't fall for it.

According to the Better Business Bureau, a government entity or law enforcement agency will never contact you by phone asking for money, and unfortunately, with these types of scams if you wire money to anyone, you will never get that money back.

Follow these rules:

  • If you didn't initiate the phone call, don't provide personal or payment information.
  • Any reputable organization will allow you to hang up and call them back so you are 100% sure you aren't being scammed.

If you have fallen victim to these types of scams, report it at BBB.org/scamtracker.
