Have you recently received a letter or postcard claiming to be about your mortgage through Heartland Bank?

*You're not alone.*

We've heard from customers who have received official-looking letters claiming their **home warranty has expired**, that they must **"verify" their mortgage information**, or that they need to call immediately to avoid losing coverage or falling out of compliance with their mortgage loan.

**❌ These letters are NOT from Heartland Bank.**

## Why did I receive this?

After purchasing or refinancing a home, certain information about your mortgage becomes part of the public record. This can include information such as:

- Property address
- Mortgage lender
- Borrower's name
- Loan amount
- Recording information

Third-party marketing companies often use this publicly available information to send advertisements for products like home warranties, mortgage protection insurance, or other services.

**Heartland Bank does not sell your personal information.**

## How to spot a misleading mortgage solicitation

Some of these letters are designed to create urgency by using phrases like:

- "FINAL ATTEMPT TO CONTACT YOU"
- "Immediate Action Required"
- "Your Home Warranty Has Expired"
- "You May Be Out of Compliance With Your Mortgage"
- "Registration Is Required"

While these statements may sound alarming, they are often simply marketing tactics intended to persuade you to purchase a product or service.

🚩 The letter creates unnecessary urgency or pressure to call immediately.

🚩 It asks you to "verify" information over the phone.

🚩 It promotes a home warranty or protection plan you never requested.

🚩 The phone number listed is NOT a Heartland Bank phone number.

## What Heartland Bank Will Never Do

- We will ***never*** send confidential account information on a postcard.
- We will ***never ***pressure you into purchasing a home warranty or other third-party product.
- We will ***never*** ask you for your personal information.

## What should you do if you receive one?

- Don't panic.
- Don't assume it's from Heartland Bank just because our name appears on it.
- Contact your local Heartland Bank branch directly or call **800-759-3119** before taking any action.
